If you're looking for a lap cat, have I got news for you - I love laps! I'm quite the snuggler and love cuddle time. Oh, I suppose I should introduce myself before I just snuggle up on you, huh? My name is Gracie. I'm a 10-year-old senior kitty who has QUITE the story to tell, and a lot of it is left to be told. So let's sit down, and I'll tell you all about me while you hold me, okay? I came to the SPCA feeling VERY sick. There was even a scare of how long I would last, since it was looking like I was in kidney failure. I was extremely thin and had a hard time putting on weight, and not feeling well made me grumpy. I just did not want people touching me so much, you know? I was so miserable! Then after so long on a special diet and trying some medicine, I started to feel more like my old self, and now I'm back to my lap cat lovebug self. I still need to put on more weight, and I'm being reassessed by a vet to check how my kidney levels are doing, since they clearly had been in some distress. Whether that was due to the neglect I experienced before coming here or something more, we have to find out. I would love more visitors but most of all, I would love to be in a home surrounded by people to love, so I hope my wish comes true, whether that means some wonderful person adopts me or decides to foster me! show less

"Hey there, I'm Alfie! I'm a young and crazy dog that just got to the shelter not too long ago. I went into foster but was too much for them so I came right back... I've had a lot of interest lately but I need a certain someone who understands Huskies and is patient and experienced with training dogs like me. I also need A LOT of exercise and energey outlets before any training will be super effective. They do the best they can for me here... but... I still have SO MUCH energy left!" Alfie is a very sweet boy, but he is still just a puppy at a year old! He has lots of energy and will need a home that can provide him with plenty of outlets to run. He is playful and still needs some pretty basic training, so he should not go so a home with young children as he is mouthy when he plays. When he gets frustrated (we recommend shorter training sessions and ending on a good note with him so he feels confident) he tries to bite his leash or chew on the edge of your coat. We are starting to muzzle train him to make sure he stays safe.  Alfie needs an experienced dog owner who understands his breed (Husky). Ideally, his new family or human would be a runner and or avid hiker to make sure he gets outside as often as he needs to. They will need to commit to some serious training for the first portion of his new life at home before the real fun starts and he can truly settle into a new forever home.  show less

So I know I'm not really most people's first pick - seems like a lot of people want puppies or young dogs - but just hear me out for a second, please, especially if you're looking to really, truly rescue a dog. I'm a really good boy with plenty of energy who loves long walks, and I'm a good boy on a leash too. I'm also already housebroken and will bark to let you know when I need to go out - no need to go through extra training with me! That's the benefit of a sweet older dog: I already know how to mind my manners! I am a little shy at first, and in the shelter with so many other dogs around me while I'm trapped in a kennel, well, I can be pretty barky when you first meet me. But give me a chance during an outside meet-and-greet where I can roam around and take my time to get to know you, and I warm up real quickly to you. Men, women, I have no preference, I just love humans that love me back! I haven't revealed how I am with small kids yet, but the humans are thinking 8 years and up for me. It's hard to test these things in COVID times at the shelter but I don't come with a bite history or anything. What I do come with is diabetes. Yeah. I was surrendered at a veterinary office, so I can only speculate that my former family wasn't prepared to handle that expense. Daily insulin isn't the worst thing, but it does scare some people off. So I try to be super good about taking my insulin shots to make them feel better about it! Then getting treatment helps me feel good and ready for long play sessions, so I don't even feel like I have a health problem. As far as things I don't like, well, there is one ... other dogs! I'm okay at a dog park or on walks, but I don't want to have to live with another dog. They stress me out. So that's a little spiel on me. I hope you'll give me a chance and ask about me soon! I'm a really good boy who can't wait to have a new home! show less
