Hey there, I'm Marie Antoinette, and not to lose my head or anything, but I'm something of a super mom. You see, when my six kittens were only three days old, I got hit by a car and broke my back leg. Despite that incredible pain, I went back to my babies and took care of them. Some nice people found me and brought me and my babies to the SPCA, where we were then rushed to the Lucerne Veterinary Hospital and went into foster care with a vet there. They kept me as painfree as possible while I continued to nurse my babies, until the babies were big enough to be weaned and I could finally have FHO surgery to fix my hurting hip. Now I'm at the SPCA, and I have to admit, I am GLAD to have that part of my life behind me. You can still see a little bit of the old battle wounds in my shaved hind end and the way I limp a little bit. But mostly I like to boss humans around and let them know which ones are on my approved list and which ones aren't. If I like you, I'll even reach up and give you a hug. If I don't like you, well, I'll let you know. Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! Please note that right now, to keep all the humans that care for me safe, visits are by appointment only. So fill out an application on me and they can schedule a meet-and-greet at your convenience. I hope we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Monthly givers in our Pet Pal program get letters, photos, and more directly from us animals - you can even mention you want to hear directly from me. Join today! show less

Hello! My name is Eleanor, but I'm also known as Mommy. I have had a good, long life with my daughter, Pepper, and have known a lot of love, so I am an extremely sweet little gal. Pepper and I are both a bit older than most cats you find at a shelter, and a bit worse for wear. I have severe dental disease, arthritis, and hyperthyroidism which has been untreated until recently. I know most people want to adopt something young and fluffy, not an older kitty with health issues that came in looking like skin and bones, but I sure do love it when someone pays attention to my daughter and me. I would be SO happy if someone would be willing to take us home. It may even be the second lease on life that I'm looking for, but in the very least, it would be wonderful to spend more time with people that I can love on. I am a snuggly, cuddly girl who loves chicken treats and spending quality time with people. I can't imagine going anywhere without Pepper, so we're a pair. We know we're sort of unusual, so please feel free to call and ask for the Manager's Special on our adoption fee - while most seniors are $100, the SPCA is willing to negotiate our adoption fee for the right home! Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! Please note that right now, to keep all the humans that care for me safe, visits are by appointment only. Unlike my mother, Eleanor, who is happy to greet new people when they walk into a room with her, I am very sad and frightened by all the change going on lately. We recently lost our owner and had to come to this shelter, and I am still finding the experience scary, even though they gave us our own room to share. I spend most of my days squished behind the chair, hiding and wishing things were better. It may be hard to tell when you meet me, but giving me a home would be the best thing ever. I would love to just go home and settle in somewhere with my mom, Eleanor, again. We're special needs kitties since we're both older than your average shelter cat, we both have hyperthyroidism that has gone untreated, and we both have severe dental disease that currently cannot be treated while our thyroids are out of whack. So because of these special circumstances, the folks at the SPCA say you should ask for the special Manager's Discount on our adoption fee. I guess they're willing to strike a deal. Maybe you can ask about us and find out more? Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605!
