Hello! My name is Rags. I'm a calico, but don't let the stereotypes of how "mean" and "sassy" calicos are scare you. Ask any one of the nice people here and the first thing they'll tell you is that I'm sweet. Aww! I came in as a stray with my kittens earlier this spring, and now all of my babies have gone to their homes. I'm still waiting for a family to choose me, but that's okay, they can take their time. I'll just enjoy the snacks and cozy beds the nice people give me here. I'm a chill girl who would probably love just sitting with you as you watch TV. I do like to play and explore, it's just I'm also really content to have quiet time, especially after raising six kids of my own! One thing you might want to know about me, though, is I do get VERY car sick, so just keep that in mind when you're going to take me home or when you need to take me to the vet. So while I haven't been in a community cat room yet, I don't seem to mind other cats. I also have been fine with toddlers and small children coming by my kennel to visit me. Really, it's hard to faze me! I'm like an old soul with a long life ahead of me. If you'd like to meet me, please fill out an application on me by clicking the button by my name. I hope I can meet you soon! Can't adopt but want to help out? Why, hello there. My name is Lily, and I am a beautiful long-hair tortoiseshell cat that is 10 years young... okay, almost 11. (I can call myself beautiful because it's true! My sister, Rocky, isn't so bad either.) Since I was a kitten, my sister and I grew up in a loving home, and that's where we spent the next 10 years, until our dad passed away. We know what it's like to have a loving home and are happy to bestow kisses and affection on those we deem worthy - I happen to have more particular tastes than my sister but I do tend to prefer men. Women are fine as well, I just like them to know I'm the prettiest girl in the room - as long as they're okay with that, we're all good! Now I must confess, I do come with some conditions. On top of wanting to be only pets with my sister Rocky, since it's always been the two of us our whole lives and we don't like change, my gorgeous long fur needs daily brushing so I don't hack up those yucky hairballs. Trust me, it's unpleasant for me and I have the distinct impression humans aren't too fond of hairballs either, so that daily brushing is important to me. Secondly, I have had some issues with tinkling outside of the litter box in the past when conditions weren't just right, since I'm prone to urinary tract infections. I love it when my litterbox is kept clean too, so sometimes I have gone outside of the box just to remind people that it's time to change my potty. Because I've had frequent UTIs in the past, I have a special food called prescription C/D food. It doesn't taste that great but it does help me feel a lot better. The humans here at the SPCA feed it to my sister and me, and they promise to send it home with us so we don't have to try any foods that make us sick. I know that can sound like a lot - cat nearly in her teen years, bonded to her sister, doesn't want other dogs or cats to compete for attention, needs daily brushing and a special diet - but I really do appreciate it when someone goes that extra mile for me, and I'm sure to reward my favorite people with rubs, asking for lots of pets, and rolls to show off my glorious belly. Also don't forget, my adoption fee is only $100 because I'm a senior cat, and with my sister, that would be a total of $150 for both of us since she comes half off (you know I'm the better half anyway!) Also if you happen to be a senior like us (65 or older in human years), you can get an additional 30% discount on our adoption fee. We're FIV/FeLV negative, which means we don't have those specific cat illnesses, yay! We're also up-to-date on our vaccines and shots. Love for a lifetime from two darling cats - what are you waiting for? Can't adopt but want to help out? Hello! Would you like some kisses? Oh, I guess I should introduce myself first. My name is Rocky. Like my sister, Lily, I'm long-haired but while she's a tortie, I'm a black kitty. Like a little black floof ball! I love my sister, Lily, and can't imagine life without her since we were raised together in a home since we were kittens. But after 11 years, our daddy passed away, and we didn't have any relatives that could take care of us so we came to the shelter to look for a new family. It can be hard starting over, especially when people think you're a "senior", but we're doing our best and believe we'll find the purrfect family. I'm a little more outgoing than my sister but I still like to take life at a more laidback pace. I adore bestowing kisses on humans, though, especially when they have been nice enough to give me lots of pets. I love being stroked and petted! Just like I love being brushed. It feels so good! Which is a good thing, since I need to be brushed every day or else my luscious long hair might form into hairballs - yuck for everyone involved! But I love my grooming sessions, so brushing me isn't a problem as long as you can take the time to do it for a few minutes every day. Besides that, my sister and I have a history of urinary tract infections, so the vet put us on a super special prescription diet called C/D food. Eating that has really helped us avoid health issues, so the shelter staff have been feeding us it and promise to send a bag home with our future family so we don't have to eat any foods that make us sick. On top of that, I really like my space to be kept clean, especially my litterbox. I'm a true tidy cat! I know that can sound like a lot - cat nearly in her teen years, bonded to her sister, doesn't want other dogs or cats to compete for attention, needs daily brushing and a special diet - but I really do appreciate it when someone goes that extra mile for me. I'm really a sweetheart who loves attention and giving out affection such as my head butts and ultra-special kissies. Also don't forget, my adoption fee is only $100 because I'm a senior cat, and with my sister, that would be a total of $150 for both of us since she comes half off (I'm definitely not the one that's half off, I'm too cute and worth every penny!) Also if you happen to be a senior like us (65 or older in human years), you can get an additional 30% discount on our adoption fee. We're FIV/FeLV negative, which means we don't have those specific cat illnesses, yay! You may admire when ready. My name is Socks, and I love being told that I'm a pretty little lady. See, I'm not like one of those rambunctious kittens that needs to play all the time, although I am tolerant of their juvenile antics. Actually, I'm tolerant of all my subjects, as long as they respect the fact I am their queen and am not to trifled with. Dogs, cats, children, they're all fine with me as long as they can just let me be in my own world and admire me, maybe hang out in a non-invasive sort of way. I am a mature kitty of 10 years in your human time, and I like to wear my years like a crown. I love to sit up high on a cat tree and overlook my kingdom, and when my adoring public comes, I grace them with my love and give head butts in return for ear scratches and chin rubs. I like other cats, although I get miffed if they try to rough-house with me since I spend a lot of time keeping myself purrfect. I'm not really a kitty for playtime, so although I'm fine with children and will let them pet me, I don't like to be picked up, and I don't want toys and whatnot waved in my face. So teach your little ones respect, and we'll be fine. My ideal home would be with a human of equally mature years to me, someone retired who spends a lot of time at home. Maybe we can both have chairs we sit in as we watch TV. That would be great. I would love to be part of the SPCA's Seniors to Seniors program - that's where humans 65 years and older get a special discount on senior pets. show less

If you're someone who is looking to really rescue an animal, I may be the cat you're looking for. You see, I'm a very sad kitty right now. Not just sad because I'm at a shelter - I'm sad because my human passed away. That's why I'm here. To top it off, on my journey to the shelter, I was so unhappy, my toenail got caught when I was trying to escape and was ripped right off. Ouch, that hurt! It turned out the people here didn't mean me any harm, and they've helped me feel better, but I'm still sad and spend most of my days sulking in my litter pan because my scent gives me comfort (maybe that sounds weird to humans but to a cat, it makes total sense). But truth be told ... I would really like to be loved again. I really enjoy it when someone quiet sits by my kennel and just talks to me and gives me time to come over for pets and head rubs. My ideal home would be an older couple or adult that works from home, someone that can hang around the house and keep me company all day. I would love to be someone's fur baby again. As for other pets, I got quite aggressive toward a dog at the shelter and was ready to fight her - she just looked like trouble! So I don't think I would be happy living with a dog. Cats might be fine with me. As long as they're, like, good cats. I'll also admit, I am not a fan of those tiny humans. No offense, but when you make tiny versions of yourselves, they're so active and ask so many questions and want to touch my long, fluffy fur. Uh-uh, no kids for me! If you think you can be patient and kind and help a grieving cat's heart mend after the loss of her beloved owner ... please come meet me. I would love to meet you, even if I'm a little reserved at first. Can't adopt but want to help out? Introduce myself. Right. Give me a moment, I'm a little bit shy ... My name is Frodo, and I'm a dark gray kitty with some white spots. I came in to the shelter as a stray with my siblings, the hobbit kittens, back in April of 2021. Now it's my sister, Precious, and me waiting for our forever home. We love each other and take comfort having the other around, so we need a home that will take the both of us and be very patient because we're both skittish around new people. But once I get to know you (and ESPECIALLY once I know you have yummies!), I show I'm not a feral cat. I accept pets from gentle people that keep my belly full, but I'm not so keen about jumping in laps like my sister, Precious, is. I love, love, love canned food, and snuggling with my cat friends is another favorite activity of mine. I may take time to trust a new two-legged friend, but when a good home is ready to commit to Precious and me, we promise we'll be worth the wait. We would do best in a quiet home with older kids (teens and up) just because younger kids like to make a lot of noise, and we get that, it's healthy for them, but that stresses us out. Rambunctious dogs can scare us but we'll likely be fine if the dog is used to cats and gives us our own space. We love other kitties, though! If we're not cuddling with each other, we're cuddling up to other cats in the Green Room here at the shelter. We could be indoor-outdoor kitties if our new family made sure to keep us indoors-only until we trust them fully, but a catio might be a better alternative for us. Can't adopt but want to help out? Why, hello there. Would you like to open this kennel and give me some pets? I'm a very fluffy gentleman named Josiah. Sometimes cats of mature age like me get easily passed up, especially when there are cute kittens flooding every nook and cranny, but I have a sweet and steady love to offer. I'm already housetrained and ready to chill out with my family. And the thing with me is I'm willing to accept anyone as my family! Kids, dogs, cats - I love you all. I was very scared when I first came to the shelter, but can you blame me? Suddenly finding yourself homeless is hard for anyone to go through. The only special thing I need is my insulin. Yes, I'm diabetic but please don't let that scare you away. My insulin is about $95 and it lasts me about three months! I get it twice a day, which means that I need a good supply of needles as well. The ladies here at the shelter can hook you up with a few week's worths, and after that, it's only about $13 for a 50 day supply!! What a bargain! I try to make it easy for humans by being a good patient. The nice people at the shelter can show you how to do a shot too if you want the guidance. I am eating a special low-carb, high protein diet that's specific to diabetic cats! I hope you'll schedule a time to meet me soon. I would much rather be in a home! Can't adopt but want to help out? Hey there, new furriend! Do you love black cats? If you don't know the answer to that, you should come meet me and you'll learn you TOTALLY love us black or tuxedo kitties. I'm super friendly and loving and I'll greet you with my tiny little chirps. A good Samaritan found me as a stray wandering around and brought me to the SPCA, where they microchipped me, got me neutered (WHUUUUT???), and poked me with these shot things so I could be protected against rabies or whatever. It sounds awful but actually I like the people here. The attention is great, and they tell me that eventually, someone will come in and choose to adopt me. Being adopted sounds super exciting to me! I'm only about two years old and have a lot of life to live. I'd probably be happy indoors or as an outdoors/indoors cat. I haven't exactly revealed how I feel about other cats or little kids yet, but so far I've been fine with whatever wanders by my cage, especially if it's going to be nice to me. I love people watching especially and am a super curious boy! When I saw a dog, though, I got all puffy and aggressive. I don't think I'm gonna like those creatures much! Maybe with other animals, slower introductions would be best for a kitty like me. Because I can be a little sassy, any young children in the house should have a good sense of humor about animals - I can be very playful and may not be the best fit for a home that needs calm pets for sensitive children. Hopefully you'll come by sometime and meet me for yourself! Oh my, what a huge and loud place this is, but at least the people are nice and are helping me make new friends. My name is Precious, and I'm the youngest of the kittens from the Tremont Colony. I'm about a month younger than my brother, Frodo, who I can't imagine living without because he's the best big brother EVER. I'm not sure how I even managed to survive out in the big scary outdoors - when I came here, I had a nasty abscess on one of my paws, and it hurt so much! The shelter people set up a fund so people in the community could help pay for vet bills for animals like me, so I'm all better now. I hope other stray animals can get help from that fund too! Now I've been at the shelter since April 2021, and my brother, Frodo, and I would be happy to find a home that could be patient enough to give us the time we need to come out of our shells. We're both very shy but good-natured kitties. In fact, if you don't mind giving me time and a little bit of space, I will show you how well my name fits me! Who knows, if you treat me right, spend enough time with me, and give me plenty of nummy yummies, I may sit on your lap and make some biscuits! (I actually love snuggles!) Being with my brother, Frodo, really keeps me happy and makes my personality pop, so we HAVE to be adopted together. Hi, my name is Turtle. By nature, I'm a very skittish kitty - loud noises frighten me and I would be so much happier in a quiet home, maybe curled up on a lap! I am a very sweet girl, so much so that even when I'm scared, if I can see you're a nice person, I'm receptive to pets and chin scratches. I grew up in a home that just had too much activity for me; while I loved my mom a lot and enjoyed it when we could have one-on-one time together, I spent all my time hiding from the other cats and dogs. My mom made the hard choice to give me the chance to find a home I would be happier in, and so she entrusted me to the SPCA. They're actually quite nice here and have given me my own space and treats, and they promise to keep my mom updated once I find the perfect home. I would LOVE to go home with a couple that doesn't have other pets or kids, but I might also be okay with quiet dogs that don't pay any attention to me and don't bark when things happen outside. Other cats may stress me out but I have never shown signs of aggression, just a desire to have lots of quality one-on-one time with the humans I love. I don't mind older kids or quiet kids, but most kids like to be able to make noise and explore, and I'm just way too stressed out by that. I would much rather be with an older family that can pamper me and let me be the baby! Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! Please note that right now, to keep all the humans that care for me safe, visits are by appointment only. So fill out an application on me and they can schedule a meet-and-greet at your convenience. I hope we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! show less
