DSH, Gray and white Male, 2 years old Special notes: Bella’s “brother”, he and his sister are bonded. Walter looks up to other cats for support. He also has cute thumbs because he’s polydactyl! “I'm a little bit skittish at first, but let me explore and settle in, and I make an adorable assistant! I love surveying what the SPCA folks are up to now and helping them sort through their wires and offer tech support. I'm what you would call a little helper! Bella might be my sister - we were found around each other by the same nice lady that decided we shouldn't be living outside, wandering around. So I have a lot of sweetness, like her, even though we don't look alike. ”I’d rather go to a nice, comfortable home that’s patient with me and has other cats. Seeing other cats makes me feel a little better. I wasn't bonded with Bella when I first arrived at the SPCA - she was a little bossy with me - but now we're best buddies and can't imagine being separated. So the hoomans have labeled us as bonded so we will be adopted together.” Can't adopt Walter but want to help him out? You can always make a donation toward his care! If you want to do even more, you can consider sponsoring a kennel for a year. These options and more are available at our website, spcahancockcounty.org/donate If you would like to know more about Walter, please feel free to get in touch with us through email at adoptions@spcahancockcounty.org or by calling us at 667-8088 from 11 am to 5 pm. PLEASE NOTE: During our adoption process, we will do a vet check on your current pets or previous pets from the past 10 years to make sure they've been up-to-date with rabies shots (required by law for dogs and cats) and vaccines. We also will do a check with your landlord if you rent. show less

Special qualities: very shy and socially awkward, needs space and time to come out of her shell, prefers meaty bits instead of pate food “People! Those come readymade with toys! Just look at their hands and fingers and all those fun parts they come with! I don’t really know how else to interact with a person, so I either want to smack them or hide. They’re big after all! I was a stray before I was transferred here, so I didn’t have a lot of time to develop social skills with humans. I seem to be okay with other animals, though the human toys will keep you posted as they get to know me better. "I'm confident enough that I would probably do well as an outdoor cat, so I may even be adoptable as a barn cat. Barn cats aren't known for snuggles, but we tend to be great mousers!" 4/28/2020 UPDATE: "Hello, 'human toy' here speaking. We actually think Jill would be a better housecat now than a barn cat! She has warmed up to us over the past couple of weeks and she now enjoys being pet. She would make a great indoor companion!" Can't adopt Jill but want to support her? You can now sponsor her through Petfinder! Please click the sponsor link above and follow the instructions. If you want to do even more, you can consider sponsoring a kennel for a year. From Elvis's foster mom, our Cat Care Manager: "Elvis is a special little boy. He's currently 2 and a half months old - will be 3 months old mid-July. He was found in an abandoned apartment by someone in the same building at around 6 weeks old. His very loud meows helped save his life. Once he was in foster with me, I realized just how loud he can be! We suspect he was malnourished and likely separated from his mom and/or litter mates too soon, so he is a bit insecure about food. He screamed for food every breakfast and dinner. And I mean SCREAMED. We don’t recommend feeding him anything by hand as he gets a little carried away and too excited about food to be gentle about taking anything from human hands. He’s gotten better with time, but he is still very food motivated. I would also suggest only feeding him wet food on regular meal schedules either twice or three times a day. If he has too much dry food in one sitting, he might “scarf and barf”. Slow feed bowls are a great way to allow him to have some crunchies safely. He gets along great with adult male and female cats in his foster home and is very playful. He’s very confident, bold, and outgoing. He can be rough when playing, so I suggest he goes with cats that are younger and also very outgoing. He loves attention whether it be human or feline, but we recommend he go to a home with at least one other cat. That being said, he is well-adjusted and would do fine alone too. He can be very snuggly when he wants to be and usually tries to nap on me. He's wonderful." show less

Border Collie Terrier mix, black and white Male, 1 year old Medium, 60~ pounds "Would you believe they used to call me Havoc? Just because I like to bark REALLY LOUD. And tear up my stuffed toys and beds. You can even see my handiwork in this picture. Didn't I do a great job throwing that stuffing all over the place? Anyway, they realized my name was maybe scaring people away, so I'm Haddock now! I'm a good boy, so there's no reason see a name and be like, 'No way! I can't handle that!' "I love when I get a chance to go outside and run around and play! That's my favorite thing ever! I don't really like kennel time, so if you come visit me, I feel like I need to let you know how much I hate being cooped up by barking REALLY LOUD. Some people think I sound scary. Isn't that cool? I use that to my advantage to get my way if you're not careful! Treats make me happy because they're also my favorite thing ever! But I think my absolute favorite thing ever is going home. I haven't found a furever home yet, but I've been in and out of homes, and I know I like them a lot. I can't wait to make one last forever! Do you think my future family will see this and decide they don't mind a little chaos of the fun variety in their lives?" Haddock is a bundle of energy and would do well in a home with lots of space to run around. He will need continued training to learn some proper doggy manners, but he is food motivated! He's like a puppy in a big dog body. He bit his previous owner in a reactive defense, and he generally does not realize how big he is, so we do not want him to go to a home with children that could accidentally be hurt while he is learning his doggy manners. Haddock needs to be with another energetic dog that can handle his somewhat aggressive play OR a very confident, mature dog that will not tolerate his antics and show him how to behave. Otherwise, Haddock has a tendency to bully other dogs. Haddock is also INCREDIBLY smart and has learned he intimidates people. He will use this to his advantage if he thinks it will get him his way. He has a fearsome bark and growl and if he thinks he's going to be punished will use it to try to make you back down. Because of this, he would do better with someone who has experience with dog training or who would be willing to commit to several months of obedience training to make up for what he lacked in his puppy-hood. Haddock is not particularly aggressive but may frighten cats and smaller animals with his rough play and chase sessions. His smart, manipulative tendencies make him a hard match with kids, so we recommend him for households with teens and older. If you have any questions about Haddock, please feel free to give us a call at 207-667-8088 or email us. Not ready to adopt yet? You can still make a difference! Albania and Emelia have been a bit stressed out from their transition to the shelter, and though they are bonded, may sometimes act out at each other when they’re a bit stressed. Sisters! However, after a couple days, they’ve settled in nicely and are back to their loving adorable selves. They spend most of the day smushed into the same bed together and it’s hard to tell where one cat ends and the other begins! They also like to groom each other. “We're another set of Oreo cat twins! We’re nice and friendly, but we’re also very spunky girls, as you can judge from our photos. We have a lot of energy and love exploring and playing! You can tell us apart by our markings, though. Albania has the goatee, and Emelia has the mustache. We're still a little jumpy from being surrendered to the SPCA, though we like when we get plenty of space to ourselves and playtime. Our old owners were really sorry to say goodbye to us but didn’t have a choice, and we’re glad they brought us to the shelter where we would be safe and find new loving homes. We've been together all our lives; we're sisters and don't know what we would do without one another. According to our former owner, we're good with small dogs, but we don't really like other cats or kids. We're a little fussy, but that's okay because we're cute, right? This is the part where you say RIGHT.” show less
