What's up, friends, Dorito here! And surprise, I am a girl! In fact, you might say I'm easily the BEST GIRL. A lot of people love me, and it's not hard to see why. I am playful, sweet, friendly, and love showing off my chubby belly. I love kids, even little ones, and just generally love to be around people. I even do well around medical equipment and have been gentle enough not to snag on anything, and noises don't bother me. What does bother me are dogs, and sometimes other cats. I like being the center of attention, so although I can sometimes live with other cats, they tend to need to have a strong enough personality to stand up for themselves. Otherwise, I want all the attention, and I'll tell them to get out. So I may be best as an only kitty or with a family that has a lot of experience with multiple cats and our, um, personalities. I'm Cal, short for Calcifer - isn't that a fun name? I was found as a stray under a kind person's porch. They took good care of me and even took me to the vet, which is where they found out I am positive for FIV - feline immunodeficiency virus. And it's true, my immune system is compromised and this is something I could technically pass on to other cats, but this is actually only commonly passed on by deep wounds, such as when cats get into a fight, or when cats, um, well, mate or if kittens are born with an FIV-positive parent. Since I'm fixed and as long as I go into a home with fixed cats, those latter ones aren't really an issue. I can live with other cats, as long as they are comfortable with another kitty sharing their space and the risk of fighting is extremely low. FIV cannot be passed to dogs or humans by any means. You can learn more about FIV at this link here. But there is more to me than being FIV positive. See, I can have a pretty normal life outside of it! I love my fox blanket and bed, and mealtimes are some of my favorite times of day. Although I am shy, if you give me a chance and show some patience, I am actually a very sweet and loving girl. I also LOVE looking out windows (so please make sure your windows are closed or screens are secure so I can't sneak out, just in case!). I'm one of those mellow, sweet cats that tries not to take up a lot of space, but once you notice me, I just seem to sparkle and you'll love the time you spend with me. I would be the perfect companion for someone who wants a special friend to come home to after class or work. Think we might be a good fit for each other? Come by and meet me! show less

Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo? Oh wait, I'm right here! I exude as much charm as my name would suggest, especially when I'm comfortable in my surroundings. For instance, I might be one of the first kitties to greet you in the lobby, and will reach out a paw or meow for attention. But take me out of my space, and the truth comes out: I'm a shy guy. I really love consistency and simple pleasures, and I am likely to get overwhelmed/frightened by too much happening at once. I did go to a home that had other kitties in it, but I was not getting along with the cats there. It could be that with slow introductions, I may be able to integrate into a home with other cats just fine, but for now, it's recommended I be an only kitty. I do love to play and eat, so I'm guaranteed to keep you plenty of company, even by myself! Just please remember to take it slow and easy with me, and help me to gradually adjust to new spaces and new events. And please have plenty of hiding spots available for me when I first come home - that first big move can be scary, so it helps to be prepared! show less

Oh my, please come on gently. My name is Sophie, and this is my best friend, Piggy. I love carrying Piggy the toy everywhere with me for comfort. See, I'm 6 years old and only knew one home for my whole life, so when my family moved and I had to come to the shelter, I found all the changes super scary. I still bark loudly when someone new approaches my kennel, and because I'm a pretty big girl, I can sound fairly scary! But yummy treats and lots of patience help me warm up to people, and then I am a big baby. I love going for car rides and ride very well - no carsickness here! I am not sure about other dogs or cats in the shelter setting, but a lot of things are scaring me right now. I did previously live with small dogs and got along with them, so it's possible that with proper introductions, I might be able to settle in with another dog, but I would recommend this course only if my future family is experienced with introductions. Otherwise, I make a wonderful solo companion! I have not spent much time with cats but I have shown signs of a high-prey drive when outside and have pulled my handlers on the leash - I definitely need more leash training! With big brown eyes and golden fur, our chihuahua mix Coco is ready to make new friends at the SPCA of Hancock County. Coco is about 3 years old and already fixed and up-to-date on her shots. Rambunctious, playful, and cuddly, this girl loves with all of her heart. She does have a bit of a Napoleon complex and is quick to try to prove herself to other dogs, so if her future family has other pets, it would be best to start with slow introductions. Coco is housetrained and enjoys adventure time on a harness and leash, so this friendly girl would do well with someone who is looking for a constant companion. Her favorite things are snacks, being told she is a good girl, and sitting next to her favorite human. She might get overwhelmed by small children, and we are not sure how she would do with cats. But we do know she would make an A+ snuggle buddy and playmate for a human. show less
