I'm a big "puppy", put in quotes because I'm almost a full-grown doggie now but let's face it, I'm still a puppy. I came here very, very scared and wanted to be around my mom and siblings to know things were okay, but now that I know more of the people here and I've made friends, I'm much happier! Some of them say I'm even "obnoxious" which is a big word so it must be a good thing. I am definitely a teenager, unsure how to be a grown-up dog but a little too big to be a puppy now. Guess they want me to start learning things, like how to walk on a leash or follow commands! I'm so used to doing things my own way, that's a whole new world for me but I guess I might learn, if they give me enough cookies. Sometimes, I really like other animals, and other times, I don't know what I'm supposed to do, so I do a bit of everything to cover all my bases! Like when I met a cat, I was like, do we fight? Do we play? Do I run away? I didn't know, so I barked a lot at it and hopped around defensively behind the nearest person, but I didn't want to attack it or anything. Then when I met this lady who wanted to take my picture, I was sure she was bad news, so I was all like, "wooo wooo wooo!" at her and growling and hid behind my caretaker. Then I went peepee, not because I was scared but because I saw a bush, and it looked like it needed to be peed on. Then I remembered that weird lady was there, so I went back to hopping around her, and then she started throwing me cookies. Those were yummy! Then I went back to hopping around because she might have been trouble. And then when she said, "I think we've gotten all we can," I decided we were BFFs and ran over and gave her kisses. I hope she comes back to play again! Who knows how I'll respond! So I don't know why they say I'm obnoxious or what that means, but I'm pretty sure it means "he who covers all his bases". They think I could use a family that will be committed to training me. I guess that's good because then we'll spend lots of time together! show less

Staffie Terrier, golden fawn Male, 6 years old Medium/Large Special notes: very loyal and protective of his people, not good with other dogs or cats, needs to be watched carefully outdoors “I bet I know what you’re thinking, ‘Oh boy, another pittie that isn’t good with dogs or cats, he’s dangerous.’ I know some people think my breed is the worst. I get that. But you know what? That don’t matter because I’m FUN. Sure, I’m not good with other dogs or cats or animals in general; too high of a prey drive, but I’m super fun with people. I love belly rubs, as attested to by everyone that’s met me. I just really like to ham it up, you know? YOLO, which I just think is fun to say. YOLO, YOLO, YOLO. “I’m not one of those hyper crazy dogs though. I am just as happy vegging out with my people. We could watch TV all day and I won’t judge you. Then again, are people still judging each other for that nowadays? Anywhoozles, I’d make a great buddy for an adult household with a fenced-in yard, if I’m gonna dream up a perfect home. Little ones can’t control me on my leash if I see another dog or cat or something that I might want to chase, so I need someone who can handle me. “I know it sounds like a lot of ‘no this, no that’ with me, but I hope someone can look past that and see that I’d be a great buddy to hang out with and spend a life with. I just need the right home. Some of you might remember me from before, and the family that took me was super great, but something happened, I maybe was a bad boy toward a neighbor’s animal when I got loose one day, and now I’m here for my own safety and happiness. Yeah, I can’t help it. I just got a naughty streak. But I swear, that’s the worst of it! Honest to Rocky! That’s me. I’m Rocky.” Can't adopt Rocky but want to help him out? You can always make a small donation to support him. If you want to do even more, you can consider sponsoring a kennel for a year. These options and more are available at our website, spcahancockcounty.org/donate If you would like to know more about Rocky, please feel free to get in touch with us through email or by calling us at 667-8088 from 11 am to 5 pm. Hello there, humans! A few months ago, I came to the SPCA with a dozen other cats from a semi-feral colony. I was a wreck at first and seemed like I hated people, but I was just scared. If you give me time to relax and settle in and get to know you, I even like being petted! I have pure green eyes without a fleck of yellow in them, something I think makes me unique. I love other cats, especially calm ones, older ones, or just frightened ones because I know how that is. I would make a good companion for another cat, and I'm bound to keep you entertained with my intelligent stares and wandering around. I just hope someone adopts me soon. It gets lonely being the last of my clan here, even though I enjoy spending time with Hokie especially. I make him share a shelf when I feel like it. I think it's good for him to share. Because I am shy and take time to acclimate, I really don't think I would want to go to a house with young children. I might be okay with it if they're really good and understanding about my need for space and to take things at my own pace. I am not bothered by the dogs going by in the hallway but haven't actually interacted with a dog in a long time, so it's hard to say how I feel about them nowadays. But I DO love other cats. I've met a lot of cats in the community room since coming to the SPCA, and I don't fight with anybody. If you want to win me over, just give me some space, talk to me quietly and sweetly, and just hang around. Once I get used to you, you might be surprised when I pop out to greet you and ask for some love!   Monet is a great girl! Shelter staff report that once she knows you, she'll come say hi and she actually really enjoys being pet. You just have to earn it! Her fur is really soft and she has beautiful eyes.  show less
