SPCA of Hancock County's adopted pets

There's really no doubt I'm a nice kitty, but this whole being in a kennel in a shelter thing scares me! I'm not sure how to express how I feel about it in a way the humans will understand best. Should I rub against the cage while growling? Should I mew and then hiss while they walk around the room? I dunno! I just know I want OUT of this kennel! Despite being very vocal about my displeasure, I was open to being petted, even as I was still growling. I think I just like making noise sometimes! I also like treats ... A LOT. It makes me happy when someone introduces themselves by offering me treats; what a way to make an impression! It's hard to say how I get along with other cats, animals, or children at this point, since I am a new arrival and am still pretty frightened by just being here. Once I settle down more, maybe the humans will understand what I'm saying and paint a more accurate picture of me. For now, just know I may be scared but I haven't been mean, just vocal. Vocal means I give warnings so that's a good thing for the animal rescue people! On the other hand, it may mean I like chatting, so if you're looking for a quiet cat ... mmm, maybe look elsewhere. I have a lot to say and all of it is very important! show less

I guess it’s not SO bad, but it’s different, okay, and it takes time to get used to different. I’m gonna huddle up in the back of my kennel right now and just try to figure out what everyone’s after, if there’s like an angle to all this kindness or what. Then maybe I’ll let you all know more about me. "Now that I've had some time to settle in the shelter, I've decided ... this is nice! I've been showing what a sweet, loving, and silly kitty I am. I love giving the staff rubs and greetings, as you can see in the videos, and I am SUPER expressive. I have a face that just animates a ton. I can't wait to be someone's loving housecat! I'm fine with the idae of human children - more people to love on! - but I'm still not so sure about other animals. "I've since gotten used to people and decided that as long as I get to love you on my terms, I LOVE people. I have my calico personality so I don't really like being told what to do when I don't feel like doing it, but I would love to be a buddy to an older couple or someone who could use a companion. I'm not too keen on other cats and have gotten territorial when visitors came by my home; that led to me biting at my owner at the time, which scared them. Redirected aggression is kind of common in us cats, though, especially when we're guarding our turf and letting others know who is the boss. I really didn't mean any harm and have been good for my handlers here at the shelter. I would really love to go to a home and stay there." Hey there! I'm one of the three moms of the Supernatural cats. We're a trio of moms that came in with eight kittens. All of us were underweight and covered in fleas and pretty anemic from the experience, but we're about the sweetest, friendliest cats you could ever meet. It can be hard to tell us apart sometimes, but that's part of what makes us all such good friends; maybe we're all even sisters, who knows! In any case, I would love to have a home lined up for me once I'm spayed and up-to-date on all my shots. I'm a confident girl who is great with other cats and friendly and outgoing with people; I may even like dogs, who knows! I haven't been dog tested yet. He used to hide and shy away from us but now he loves being pet, leans into snuggles, and even comes out to say hello. He's still pretty laid back, though, and likes to nap A LOT. He's very sweet and he's kind of a dad to a few of the others that are left from the cat colony. He takes care of them. Especially Warhol, who is still very unsure of humans. Warhol and Kandinsky love to snuggle and play together, and Kandinsky is kind of like Warhol's emotional support cat. We think Warhol would come around and be just as snuggly as Kandinsky once in a home and given the time to relax and come out of his shell. No guarantees, but Kandinsky is a great role model! DLH, Orange and White Male, Adult Warhol is one of the cats we've recently taken in from a semi-feral cat colony. He is not socialized and would do best with a patient home that would give him time to socialize and adapt and understand he is not really a "lap cat". "I have been very vocal about my displeasure, but on the other hand, you humans should be happy becaust that means I've given you plenty of warnings as opposed to going right for the swat. Some of my handlers describe me as very hissy and hidey, known to even growl at them. I consider it fair warning. You get in my space, I will get in your face. Enough said. I may be smaller than some of the other boys from our semi-feral colony, but I'm very manly too! Right now, I can't imagine being a snugly lap cat like some of them are starting to weaken and become... But I don't know, maybe someone really good with cats will be able to bond with me over time... if my buddy Kandinsky comes with me to be the guinea pig with our new human servants. He's much sweeter - I mean, weaker, than I am. But I like him. We take naps together and even play and wrestle each other. He seems to love being pet by you all but I'll give him a pass. Also because I am a lucky kitty - I held my own for a few weeks while my owner was really sick and no one realized us cats didn't have someone checking on us. Jade and TT were also from my first home, and we're all doing well now. I absolutely love playing with other cats, and love taking care of my humans. When I meow to say good morning, I even stick my whole tongue out of my mouth, just to make them laugh. Heyo! I'm an adorable kitten, what else do you need to know? Well, if you insist on learning more, my caretakers describe me and my brother, Citrine, as purrfect kittens. We're playful but not super duper crazy rambunctious. I am fine with other animals, and I would probably be okay with kids that know how to be gentle since I am still a baby after all. I like checking out toys RIGHT AWAY and starting to play immediately. Citrine watches a bit and then joins in. He likes to play but I'm the braver kitten. Don't tell him I said that!
