I am probably the most lovey kitty you could ever meet. I love being scooped up like I'm a baby and carried around in your arms. I really don't like being alone for long and would much rather spend my time with people, any people as long as they're decent! I am quick to make new friends and am a favorite here at the shelter, but somehow I haven't been adopted yet - probably because I'm FIV positive and that's generally misunderstood, I'm a black cat and people have issues with those, I'm an older cat although I'm plenty spunky and health problems can occur at any age, and let's face it, I have tummy issues. But really, I'm purrfect and need to be in a good home - that would be the best present ever not only for me but for the whole shelter! So what to talk about first, my problems or why you should adopt me? Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. I have gastrointestinal issues and chronic diarrhea. After thorough testing and bloodwork, the consensus right now is that I have food allergies. My vet suggested I try a novel protein diet, and as long as I stick to particular ingredients, it helps! Salmon and duck seem to be the best so far... Natural Balance Green Pea and Salmon food is pretty magical for my tummy and seems to be the best option so far. The cat care manager can thoroughly explain my dietary needs and what seems to work for me. You just have to be careful that the food you give me does not contain any hidden mystery meats, like "liver" or "chicken fat" somewhere in the ingredients list, and once we find something that works, STICK TO IT! Again, this is something my friend the cat care manager Kate would gladly walk you through! As for being FIV positive, it's not as scary as you might think. In the past, it was said FIV positive cats could never be with other cats, etc. etc., but actually, FIV is only passed through deep puncture wounds, not by sharing food or water bowls or even by playfighting. So a cat like me could be with other cats even if they aren't FIV positive. I'm a really good girl and even though I don't really like other cats, I'm not the sort to go fight with them. Also, FIV does not typically impact a cat's life span or health. Also, I don't even have many teeth left! I have one canine and a few other small teeth and that's about it! I recently went to the dentist and got the works done. As for the perks of me ... well, testimonials are in, and staff say I am absolutely one of the best cats in the shelter right now! They say I deserve to be in my forever home after being surrendered twice. I agree, but I'm biased. I'm cuddly, affectionate, goofy, love spending time with you, and am still playful and like toys, even though I'm getting older. I am also extremely patient. One of my homes had a kid that got so rough with me, the mom admitted she worried the tot was going to break my legs, but I never, ever lashed out at the child. I would love to be an only pet but will tolerate other animals if it means being with wonderful human beings who love me. I really hope I can have my own forever home soon! Maybe in time for Christmas?
