Oh my, please come on gently. My name is Sophie, and this is my best friend, Piggy. I love carrying Piggy the toy everywhere with me for comfort. See, I'm 6 years old and only knew one home for my whole life, so when my family moved and I had to come to the shelter, I found all the changes super scary. I still bark loudly when someone new approaches my kennel, and because I'm a pretty big girl, I can sound fairly scary! But yummy treats and lots of patience help me warm up to people, and then I am a big baby. I love going for car rides and ride very well - no carsickness here! I am not sure about other dogs or cats in the shelter setting, but a lot of things are scaring me right now. I did previously live with small dogs and got along with them, so it's possible that with proper introductions, I might be able to settle in with another dog, but I would recommend this course only if my future family is experienced with introductions. Otherwise, I make a wonderful solo companion! I have not spent much time with cats but I have shown signs of a high-prey drive when outside and have pulled my handlers on the leash - I definitely need more leash training! Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! Please note that right now, to keep all the humans that care for me safe, visits are by appointment only. So fill out an application on me and they can schedule a meet-and-greet at your convenience. I hope we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Monthly givers in our Pet Pal program get letters, photos, and more directly from us animals - you can even mention you want to hear directly from me. Join today!
