Hello! Are you my new best friend? Let me give you kisses! MWAH! My name is Hermes. I guess I should've started with that, sorry! I'm a bit awkward, but I really am excited to meet you. I'm a super sweet dog and generally a staff and volunteer favorite here at the SPCA because I love everybody. Sometimes I love you all too much! It can be hard for me to deal with the idea of being separated from my favorite people, so I hope my future family is dog-savvy and ready to be my security and rock. My health concerns and the fact I've been in and out of shelters and homes have made me a bit of an anxious guy, so you might notice I get obsessive and overly eager to please. I would LOVE to be with someone who already has some experience with dogs and is at a point in their life where they're settled enough that they can take some time to establish a good friendship with me, then follow up with being my mentor. No doubt, I'll be a super good boy for them! So about those health concerns ... I was born wtih this thing called hypospadias, which was surgically corrected when I was younger so it means I pee from my back end, below my anus. As one volunteer puts it, I pee backwards! This causes a bit of dribbling, especially on my own legs, so I need humans to use baby wipes on me after I go, just to prevent a painful skin condition called urine scalding. Ouch! That was NOT fun! On top of that, I need my daily thyroid medication, along with an antidepressant which helps a lot with my separation anxiety, and I eat a special prescription food because of my thyroid and sensitive skin. Sorry if this makes me sound like a high-maintenance dog! Maybe if I give you more kisses, it will make it better? I am incredibly affectionate and love humans of all sizes. And although cats are terrifying, terrible creatures to me, I love little human children. I can't go home with other dogs because I was brought to the SPCA after a dogfight. Hard to walk away from a history like that! But I do love every person I meet, so I hope a family gives me a chance soon! Can't adopt but want to help out? Consider sponsoring instead! When you become a Pet Pal and give monthly on behalf of our shelter animals, you are ensuring they receive the best care possible during their stay with the SPCA on their journey to a forever home. You not only are their sponsor, you're their truest friend!
