Hello there, my name is Jade I can hear a lot better than my sister and am usually the first to scurry over and say hello. Wisp, my sister and best friend of 15 years and I got to the shelter a month and a half ago after our mama died. We have been doing well in the care of the folks at the shelter but nothing compares to having a home! In our time here we have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. This is pretty typical of golden girls like us and our k/d diet helps prolong our lives and slow the disease. I also take a pill twice daily to help my thyroid stop producing so many hormones. I am a good sport about taking my pills and getting fluids every few days to keep me comfortable and help my kidneys.  To learn more about my chronic kidney disease, please click this link. It can be hard to pinpoint where I am at in my decline but our kidney care diet, fluids, and other supportive care give me a lot more time to be the sweetheart that I am.  We are often passed over because we have medical needs and need to be the only cats when we go home and it doesn't help that our looks have faded over time, if you think you might be ready to welcome in two little angels and help take care of us in this final chapter of our lives then come meet us in the pink room, we may be napping but we are never too busy to meet our future family!     show less

Hello there, my new best friend! My name is Maggie, and I'm about as sweet as they come. Not to brag, but it is easy to love me, for many reasons. One, I look a lot like a Maine Coon cat. Two, I have extra toes because I'm a polydactyl. Three, I'm really nice. Wow, what's not to love already? You might wonder how come I'm waiting to be adopted with qualifications like that. Well, I am perhaps a touch on the "experienced" side of life. Vets estimate I might be around 15 years old or perhaps older. With that comes health complications. I am in early stage chronic kidney disease, so I have a special diet to help slow down the progression of my disease. Besides all that, I really find other cats and dogs kind of stressful to be around, so I would prefer to be an only cat, especially since I'm in my golden years and not feeling super great, you know? If you're looking for a single cat to love on and talk to throughout the day or know someone who would just like a spot of company, come on by ad meet me! You can learn more about my CKD by clicking on this link. Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! If you fill out an application ahead of time, you can be pre-approved to adopt and take me home the same day you visit, if we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Monthly givers in our Pet Pal program get letters, photos, and more directly from us animals - you can even mention you want to hear directly from me. Join today! show less
