ANNIE IS IN A FOSTER HOME AND NOT AT THE SPCA-HC. SHE IS PENDING A SPAY SURGERY BEFORE SHE WILL BE AVAILABLE. From Annie's foster: This is Annie! We are guessing she is approximately 1 to 2 years old and a poodle mix. She is about 45 pounds. Unfortunately, we do not have any more history of information on her. She was rescued from a neglected situation and removed from a condemned home. She was covered head to toe in extremely thick matting. She was taken to the vet, where she was given a rabies vaccination and was shaved completely. A good Samaritan offered to foster her, so she did not have to stay at the Small Animal Clinic. As far as we know, her situation in the previous home, was that the person never left the house, so the dog had never been outside, went to the bathroom inside the home, was fed junk human food, and had no form of any training and had never been told “No’. She has been doing well and progressing at her foster home and has had many firsts! She loves it outside, she loves toys, she loves going on walks on her leash, her digestive system is adjusting to a normal dog food diet, had her first car ride, wearing a collar (and a jacket since she was completely shaved down in the middle of winter). And many more firsts! She did live with a cat, so we assume she is cat-friendly. We are not sure how she does with children because she is so shy, and she has not been tested with kids. She has been tested with another dog and did well, though she feared the other dog and kept her distance and ran away from him a little bit. She got a nail trim in the home and did well for that. She has not shown any signs of aggression at all. We are unsure of how she did to get shaved down, so we don’t know how she is going to be for future grooming, which she will obviously need. She is potty trained now, has not had any accidents in the house recently. She has only had one accident in the house since the foster brought her home. She is very shy and wary of new people, but once she gets used to you, she becomes very attached and is very sweet. Loud noises startle her because she is very sensitive and scared. She has had a hard time with being left alone; however, she has been left at home during the day while the foster is at work. So that is a work in progress of her separation anxiety. We tried kennel training her, and that did not go well at all. She was able to bend the metal frame and get out and slightly hurt herself in the process. She is closed in the bathroom while the foster is not home, and does well with her bed and toys in there with her. She would do great in a home with someone who is patient and willing to work with her and train her. Also, someone who is home often because of the separation anxiety. Her foster would like to find her a forever home by June but is willing to continue fostering her until then, so she does not have to go to a shelter. We are looking to spread the word and help with facilitating a good home for her and we know that shelters do good screening on potentional adopters, so we would love your help. Thank you so much!"
